I wanted to post some pictures about the map i’m working on, and here they are. The inside lighting isn’t done, but I figure the outside looks nice enough to present. These screens also feature my first 3D skybox, and i think it turned out pretty decent if I do say so myself. So here they are, first shots of Deadend:

The background to the map, for those who don’t know, is that survivors have been using this house to as a semi-safe zone since the infection reached the area and the city went to hell. Several groups and individuals have come and gone, and by the time the survivors show they place has been fortified with fences and barbed wire. You can also tell previous survivors were there by everyones favorite past-time hobby: Wall-Graffiti (and the house is full of it). Besides the wall-graffiti, there is also a sign I placed out front to help set the vibe:
As this is only an alpha build, I have also thought up some other sign ideas. I’m not sure which one I’m going to use yet, but here they are as well:
As part of my design philosophy, I enjoy putting interesting sights into drawings or maps I work on. For survival mode, you often spawn out of place (not spawning in a saferoom). This gives designers a unique way to design the first thing the player sees when they spawn into the map, similar to the opening cinematics in the offical Valve maps. Here is the first thing you see when you load into Deadend:
Anyway, enough of my jibba-jabba. I’ll probably do the lighting tomarrow or the day after. Till next time!
